"Acquire
knowledge, it enables its professor to distinguish right from wrong; it
lights the way to heaven. Itis
our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when
friendless. It guides us to happiness,
it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst friends and an
armour against enemies."
(Prophet Muhammad (saws))
As
a Brazilian woman reverted to Islam my interest is to review the
stereotypes related to the religion in general and Muslim women in
particular.
This
website wishes to present Islam in its historical, cultural, social,
scentific, political and religious aspects. The intention is to gather
in a single place the several angles with what Islam can be approached,
giving a general idea to those seeking for more information about the
Islamic religion.
It
intends also to be an online resource about Islam, since all
bibliography used to elaborate each article is provided, easing the
research for those interested in the subject, for religious or
academic reasons.
This
is a personal website and it is not linked to any Islamic group or
institution.
The
English version of Islamic Chat is a very short one. It's only to allow
non-Portuguese speaking visitors to have an idea about the contents of
the original Islamic Chat. Here only the introductory articles written
by its webmistress are available, while in the Portuguese version there
are more than 150 articles, either originally written in Portuguese or
translated from English into Portuguese, with the permission of their
authors, plus a FAQ section, matrimonial ads, etc.
Please understand that the
version from Portuguese into English was made using
a machine translator and then revised and edited. So bear
with me if the English is not accurate.
This
site is the result of a personal effort. A single person, a woman, is
responsible for it and all its activities. Due to that it is not possible to reply messages
asking for information about Islam in Brazil and/or requesting help in
researches, etc.
